Background

SAFE HEAVENS has been founded by Lorenzo Arona.

Lorenzo’s experience in space mission design started at Deimos Space in 2005.

He then focused on spacecraft operations, first at the European Space Operations Centre, where he performed flight dynamics operations for interplanetary probes like Rosetta and Venus Express, then at Avanti Communications. There, he was part of the leadership team that set up from scratch the company Spacecraft Operations Centre, then turned it from a cost centre into a revenue-generating department by implementing spacecraft operations‑as‑a‑service to bring‑into‑use (BIU) third-party frequency filings.

Over more than 16 years of operational expertise, Lorenzo performed and managed routine, non-routine, and contingency operations for scientific and telecommunications spacecraft in different orbital regimes.

In parallel, along his career Lorenzo has supported industry bodies and international initiatives by providing advisory on space safety and space sustainability matters, particularly as:

Member of the Board of Directors,

Space Data Association (SDA)

Lorenzo is also author of several peer-reviewed publications focused on spacecraft operations and space safety and an engaging public speaker.

He has a double degree in Space Engineering from Politecnico di Milano and Cranfield University, and a Master in Business Administration from the Chinese University of Hong Kong.

Member of the Board of Advisors,

Earth ∞ Space Sustainability Initiative (ESSI)

Member of the Space Sustainability Taskforce,

Global Satellite Operators Association (GSOA)

UK Space Agency (UKSA) delegate,

European Cooperation for Space Standardization (ECSS) working group on Space Traffic Management

Publications

Lorenzo shared his operational expertise in peer-reviewed papers published in international journals and focused on the safety and sustainability of space operations.

Here's some selected ones:
